Express Yourself
4. Like a Prayer
My first memory of Madonna is from time when I was five years old. I couldn't read very well but I watched her picture from Finnish music magazine "Suosikki" and I was so excited. She was everything I ever wanted to be! So beautiful, so exciting, so interesting, so great music...
I have to say that after that I did found better role models but I still love Madonna's music. All of it. Well, at least almost all of it. Even "Erotica" which is an album everybody seems to hate, I love that too. But of course the best album is "Like a Prayer". If you skip the last song "Act of Contrition", (which I hate) it is a perfect album. For example a song "Till Death Do Us Apart" is incrdibly ingenius! And it wasn't even a single, I have no idea why, it should have been. It just makes you jump where ever you are or however sad you feel yourself. Lyrics are very sad but it's so perfect disco-song that my words are not enough. Go, and listen it yourself and remember to dance!
And "Like a Prayer", I was so amazed when I saw the video! All those religious symbols and that beautiful black saint. And Madonna in that video! She in that brown dress with black bras dancing in the middle of burning crosses, well that was propably the sexiest thing I had ever seen (when I was 10 years old...)
But still I put here lyrics from song "Express Yourself" because... well, only because it's a perfect song that always makes me laugh. World wouldn't be the same without it. My world wouldn't. "Come on girls, do you believe in love?" Do I!
(And yes, I do have also read some of her children's books and I have to say that they are even worse than her performs in movies... Please don't even try.)
Express Yourself
Do you believe in love?
cause I got something to say about it
And it goes something like this...
Don't go for second best baby
Put your love to the test
You know, you know, you've got to
Make him express how he feels
And maybe then you'll know your love is real
You don't need diamond rings
Or eighteen karat gold
Fancy cars that go very fast
You know they never last, no, no
What you need is a big strong hand
To lift you to your higher ground
Make you feel like a queen on a throne
Make him love you till you can't come down
[you'll never come down]
Long stem roses are the way to your heart
But he needs to start with your head
Satin sheets are very romantic
What happens when you're not in bed
You deserve the best in life
So if the time isn't right then move on
Second best is never enough
You'll do much better baby on your own
[baby on your own]
Express yourself
[youve got to make him]
Express himself
Hey, hey, hey, hey
So if you want it right now, make him show you how
Express what he's got, oh baby ready or not
And when you're gone he might regret it
Think about the love he once had
Try to carry on, but he just won't get it
He'll be back on his knees
To express himself
[youve got to make him]
Express himself
Hey hey
What you need is a big strong hand
To lift you to your higher ground
Make you feel like a queen on a throne
Make him love you till you cant come down
[youll never come down]
So please
Express yourself
[youve got to make him]
Express himself
Hey, hey, hey, hey
So if you want it right now, make him show you how
Express what hes got, oh baby ready or not
Express yourself
[youve got to make him]
So you can respect yourself
Hey, hey
So if you want it right now, then make him show you how
Express what he's got, oh baby ready or not.

Sitä paitsi Till Death Do Us Part on ollut munkin lemppari jo pitkään - But she'll come back, she knows it then, a chance to start it all again. Mutta ei se biisi ole mua ikinä tanssittanut, laulattanut vain! Siinä on kovin hyvin kiteytetty onnettoman riippuvainen ihmissuhde yhteen biisiin.
I want to take a picture of Madonna with my shirt as well.
Have you read all those books in your header?
Finlandia-palkinto on sidottu Suomen kansalaisuuteen. Uusi "Finlandia-palkinto" sidottaisiin suomen kieleen eikä Suomen kansalaisuuteen!
Ruotsalaiset on taas fiksumpia. August-kirjallisuuspalkinnon saa jos kirja on kirjoitettu ruotsiksi. August-palkinto on sidottu ruotsin kieleen.
Miten on mahdollista, että suomenkieliset onnistuvat aina ampumaan omaan jalkaansa kielipoliittisesti joka ikisessä asiassa mihin tahansa ryhtyvätkin.
Ruotsinkieliset osaavat selvästi pitää paremmin oman kielensä ja kulttuurinsa puolia.
And I wish that picture would be from my bookshelf but unfortunately it is not...
Jami, mulle ei kannata tällä hetkellä saarnata pakkoruotsia vastaan sillä ensimmäistä kertaa elämässäni toivon, että olisin tosiaan opiskellut aikoinaan ahkerammin ruotsia. Ja norjan kieli se vasta kaunista onkin! ;-)
Muuten Finlandia-palkinnossa on kyllä toki omat ongelmansa, esim. se että mukaan hyväksytään vain romaaneja.
