There Is a Light That Never Goes Out
Hmm... What could be better than Madonna?
3. The Queen Is Dead
When I was teenager my brother tried to introduce me a band called The Smiths. ”You have to like them” he said, ”they even have this albm called 'Meat is Murder'.” That was the time when I had just became vegetarian so I should have been interested. But no, I didn't care about The Smiths. At that time I liked more punk. Or Janis Joplin. The Smiths sounded very boring to me. (Yes, I know, just shoot me now.) I was one of those stupid girls who didn't believe their brothers but who did believe their boyfriends. So later when I met this band second time I started to like them. First only a little bit but later more and more. And now, as you can see, they are number three in my all time favourite-list.
Of course I love Morrissey's lyrics but I really think those lyrics need Johnny Marr's music with them. That's why I don't like only Morrissey as much as I love The Smiths. (And now I have to confess that actually I have no idea what Johnny Marr is doing nowadays. Can someone tell me should I get familiar with his music too?)
And yes, of course I should put here lyrics from song ”Cemetry Gates” because Morrissey is singing there about Keats, Yeats and Wilde but instead I will put here one of the saddest and the most beautiful love songs ever...
There Is a Light That Never Goes Out
Take me out tonight
Where there's music and there's people
And they're young and alive
Driving in your car
I never never want to go home
Because I haven't got one
Anymore
Take me out tonight
Because I want to see people and I
Want to see life
Driving in your car
Oh, please don't drop me home
Because it's not my home, it's their
Home, and I'm welcome no more
And if a double-decker bus
Crashes into us
To die by your side
Is such a heavenly way to die
And if a ten-ton truck
Kills the both of us
To die by your side
Well, the pleasure - the privilege is mine
Take me out tonight
Take me anywhere, I don't care
I don't care, I don't care
And in the darkened underpass
I thought Oh God, my chance has come at last
(But then a strange fear gripped me and I
Just couldn't ask)
Take me out tonight
Oh, take me anywhere, I don't care
I don't care, I don't care
Driving in your car
I never never want to go home
Because I haven't got one...
Oh, I haven't got one
And if a double-decker bus
Crashes into us
To die by your side
Is such a heavenly way to die
And if a ten-ton truck
Kills the both of us
To die by your side
Well, the pleasure - the privilege is mine
Oh, There Is A Light And It Never Goes Out

yes good one,
nice to see something like that here after you put madonna higher than both cure and 22pistepirkko haha,
You know, Madonna was there when I was a little girl...
This whole "top10" has been really hard. First I felt panic when I tried to figure what albums are my favourite ones. That's really impossible thing to do. I didn't know should I put here albums that have had the biggest influence in my life during years or should I put the ones that are the most important ones to me right now. Or should I put here albums that I think everyone should own. (For example I really understand that not everyone share my Madonna-passion and that's ok :-) or how the hell you decide what does it mean "my top 10"?
So after a while I just decided not to think and just do what feels best. I do like Ani D. and Ark and 22PP more that Madonna, but Madonna has really had much more bigger influence in my life than those other ones. And it just felt that she has to be here.
The Smiths actually hasn't have that big space in my life, but somehow I just like this one album and everything that it represents to me so much. It's hard to explain. It's just feelings that comes when I hear these songs.
So, I didn't think that much, I just put albums in places that felt right, but now I see that they actually took the very best places. They knew where they wanted to be.
Just wait and see what is still coming... Maybe Britney Spears? Michael Jackson? 50 cent?
i´m so looking foreward to the last two,
and for the record i like madonna too, :)
